Moody Misses Game Winner
By jason Sun Oct 15th, 2023 3:11PM PDT Last Updated: Sun Oct 15th, 2023 4:45PM PDTThe 49ers are going through some growing pains at the kicker position after replacing "Good as Gold" kicker Robbie Gould with the rookie Jake Moody. Moody missed two kicks on Sunday including the potential game winner. He came into the game nine for nine including a 57 yarder against the Rams earlier in the season.
Moody has a bigger leg than Gould, but will need to work on his accuracy and consistency.
Overall the game was played by the referees who were evenly bad for both teams. The officiating crew will likely be scrutinized for the terribly called game. Their aggressive, and mostly incorrect calls were inevitable after a Browns / 49ers brawl during pre-game warm ups. But to blame the refs would ignore all the points both teams left on the field. The game was sloppy.
Shanahan said before the game that he was looking for the team to encounter some adversity and overcome it. This was a good way to lose if there is such a thing. The 49ers did encounter adversity and did respond with high level defensive play and a fourth quarter two-minute drive to get into field goal range, although they fell short in the end. Give a round of applause to the Browns defense; they are the real deal. Losing Debo and McCaffrey is unfortunate. Trent Williams may be hobbled now as well, but he did finish out the game.
Lenoire continues to grow at the cornerback position. He intercepted the ball at a critical point in the game, again. He is good at using the sideline to his advantage and is fun to watch. He can undercut routes because he trusts his safeties to cover the top.
Those steel drums creating noise on the sidelines during the 49er possessions were annoying. I hope it doesn't become a race between teams to come up with the most eardrum piercing sounds possible on the sidelines.
The only undefeated team remaining are the Eagles who are playing now against the Jets.
The 49ers are 5-1.
